Samsung released a new firmware update for the Galaxy Note 8 last week amid reports that it could be porting the AR Emoji feature to last year’s phablet. That’s precisely what this firmware update did. It also brought the Super Slow-Motion video mode in addition to the security patch for the month of September 2018.

We mentioned in our coverage that it may only be a matter of time before these features are released for the Galaxy S8 as well. Both handsets have similar specs so if the Galaxy Note 8 is capable of running these features, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ certainly are as well. Samsung is now rolling out a new firmware update for the Galaxy S8 with these features.

Galaxy S8 AR Emoji and Super Slow-Motion update

Samsung introduced the AR Emoji feature with the Galaxy S9 earlier this year. The Galaxy Note 9 has this feature as well. It doesn’t require specialized hardware or else it wouldn’t have been possible to port the features to the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S8.

While owners will be happy to get the new feature, we mentioned in our detailed overview of AR Emoji on the Galaxy Note 8 that it doesn’t get the full functionality available on the newer devices. It’s actually a stripped down version of AR Emoji as it doesn’t allow you to take AR Emoji pictures in real-time.

The company is now rolling out firmware version G950FXXU4CRI5 for the Galaxy S8 in Germany. The changelog confirms that this update brings AR Emoji and Super Slow-Motion video mode. It also comes with the latest security patch for the month of September 2018.

It may not be long now before this firmware update is released in other markets across the globe. It goes without saying that the Galaxy S8+ will eventually get it as well. Owners can rest assured now as it’s confirmed that both of these features are destined for the Galaxy S8 lineup.galaxy-s8-ar-emoji-768x1579
